THE EXPERTISE BEHIND THE NOSE

Parfums Christian Dior is one of the rare Perfume Houses that has the privilege of having its own In-House Perfumer. Genuine composers using olfactory notes, these fragrance creators invent and reinterpret scents using natural essences or synthetic substances.
François Demachy, Dior Perfumer-Creator, likes to say: "We perfumers are writer-composers and performers! We converse in a language that many understand, but few can speak. I transform what I feel into a musical score of scented notes."
Subjectivity plays a major role in creating a fragrance. Everything that a perfumer has experienced in his past will influence the way in which he perceives and interprets fragrances, which he keeps stored in his memory. François Demachy adds: “When you live in the Grasse region, scents are an integral part of daily life and they permeate your very being, leaving you eternally nostalgic.”

At Dior, quality is at the heart of Creation. It is a way of being, of thinking and of working.  More than a simple question of willingness, it is a philosophy and savoir-faire. The House of Dior thus maintains close relations with producers and gives priority to direct contacts in order to obtain the highest quality of raw materials. Like for Haute Couture, certain raw materials are sold on an exclusive basis.  This is the case for Grasse Jasmine and May Rose, which an estate has specially reserved for the House of Dior.
