It was in 1984 too that Tyen revealed his talents as a photographer with his photo of a makeup look: The Secrets of Autumn/Winter 1984.

He then combined his talents as a makeup artist and photographer by creating looks for Dior. 

Fascinated by the role of light in the images of famous photographers with whom he worked (Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, Arthur Elgort),Tyen developed a passion for the alchemy of light and colours: "Every photographer has his light just as each season has its own. Light, because of its varied tonalities, is the ideal partner for make-up”, he explains.

Tyen’s talents as a photographer extend to the world of Dior perfumes and skincare, he is behind the legendary campaigns of Poison (1985), Dune and Dune for Men (1991) and more recently, Hypnotic Poison (2009) with Monica Bellucci. And there’s also Dior Svelte Perfect (1997) and Capture Essentiel (1998)...

Tyen has always photographed magnificent women, "beautiful" as he likes to tell them: Kristina Semenovskaia, Emmanuelle Béart, Carla Bruni, Monica Bellucci, Iman, Linda Evengelista, Helena Christensen, Tatjana Patitz, Christie Turlington, Milla Jovovich, Naomi Campbell…and men too: Marcus Schenkenberg who was discovered by Tyen, Paul Sculfor, Greg Hansen and so forth.

To him, every image he creates by pressing the shutter of his camera is a "click of happiness, liberation and intense moments".
