Emblematic figures from the worlds of music, cinema and fashion, the four personalities featured in this campaign each incarnate a form of subversive creativity. Their diverse backgrounds converge to channel the “do it yourself” sprit of the collection designed by Kris Van Assche for summer 2017. Their ages and disciplines represent a duality of youth and experience, plotting an evolution of style that subverts the classicism of Dior Homme today.
Among the international casting, the American rapper A$AP Rocky, a globally successful artist as renowned for his music as his highly personal style, also appeared in the preceding Dior Homme campaign. For summer 2017, he highlights contrasts, taking to the streets of Paris wearing the season’s dark floral patchwork by Japanese artist Toru Kamei. Celebrating a very different chapter of music history, Boy George, the icon of the New Romantics movement, mixes tailoring, raw-edge harnesses and badges in his own unique style, unchanged since nights at the Blitz Club. American actor Rami Malek (of Mr. Robot fame) brings a sober, cinematic edge to the series, pictured in a sequence of color studio portraits featuring artisanal eyelet and lace-up outerwear pieces. Finally, images of model Ernest Klimko complete the portfolio with a direct visual link to the funfair scenography of the runway show, representing the radical fashion vision of Kris Van Assche for Dior Homme that balances heritage and tailoring savoir-faire with a utopian sense of refined grunge.
