23.06 DIOR OVER THE WORLD

FOR THE LOVE OF ART

GALERÍA

The Miss Dior  exhibition is in Shanghai, China, until July 20th. Among the works, a new artist delivers her contemporary vision of the legendary fragrance: Liu Lijie.

Miss Dior  is a fragrance of legend. Not only the House’s first, it’s also a record of mutual admiration between Christian Dior and women: those women that the couturier-perfumer loved so much, those women he dressed, perfumed and made happy. This idea inspired the Chinese photographer Liu Lijie to create the triptych Fan Fan , presented for the first time in Shanghai, China.
For each of her creations, the young graduate of the Beijing Film Academy tends to approach a photograph as though it were a short film, in which the mise-en-scene  takes the lead role. In this case it’s movement. A shift expressed in the two meanings of the word 'fan'. That of an admirer inspired by and following his model, but also that of a gust of air from a hand-held fan.

Liu Like conceived her work as three moments or three accords, like a fragrance. As the head note, a young woman looking up pensively at the sky. The heart note, a spaceship mysteriously floating in the air. The base note, intrigue: who is being pursued? Who is attracted?
The artist lets the viewer's imagination draw its own conclusions. Natalie Portman, who discovered the three photographs at the exhibition opening, was entranced: "Liu Lijie's work is really incredible. She has such a beautiful and dreamlike spirit. I love that she puts these sort of UFO figures, it gives mystery and it allows for a sort of unnamable thing. "
