PICTURING DIOR

GALLERY

They're called Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, William Klein, Patrick Demarchelier... For almost seventy years, the greatest names in photography have produced their own takes on the Dior spirit through iconic photos, which you can now (re)discover in the new book Dior: The Legendary Images .

Here are the snapshots taken by the American Pat English at Christian Dior's very first fashion show, which played a part in the global success of the New Look . Then there's the model Dovima, posing in her evening gown with two elephants for Richard Avedon in 1955, and the elegance of the Bar  suit photographed in the middle of Paris by Willy Maywald in 1955, the petites mains  of the couture ateliers immortalized by Patrick Demarchelier in front of 30 Avenue Montaigne in 2008, as well Robert Pattinson's cool detachment caught by Nan Goldin for the fragrance Dior Homme  in 2013. In turning the pages of Dior: The Legendary Images  one comes across those famous photographs that spread the name and influence of the house of Dior around the world, but also more personal images, such as Christian Dior photographed at home by Cecil Beaton, or a pensive Natalie Portman in Miss Dior , captured in an intimate atmosphere by Paolo Roversi.

Published to coincide with the eponymous exhibition which takes place at the Musée Christian Dior at Granville, in Normandy, from 3 May to 21 September 2014, this tome brings together an abundance of legendary images in which the essence of the Dior spirit is to be found.
