Did you guess? It was yesterday evening in Monaco that the much-anticipated surprise took place! The house went there to show its Resort 2014 collection designed by Raf Simons, and to write the newest chapter in the story that connects it to the principality.
The story begins in 1956. Upon her engagement to Prince Rainier of Monaco, it was head-to-toe in Dior that the actress Grace Kelly made the official announcement, a sign of the trust and love the princess held for the couture house which would go on to dress her for balls and galas, for evening receptions and official trips. For, between Dior and the Monegasque princess, the admiration was wholly reciprocal. In the late 1950s, the house created a bottle of the perfume Miss Dior especially for her, engraved with the Grimaldi family coat of arms. In 1967, on Avenue Montaigne, the princess inaugurated the very first Baby Dior boutique. Today, Princess Charlene of Monaco is the embodiment of the principality's charms.
And it's in Dior that she places her trust. Ravishing and radiant in powder pink, she applauded Raf Simons' first haute couture collection for the house from her front-row seat. Gracious and chic in a houndstooth suit, she admired the flower-women of the spring-summer 2013 haute couture collection this past January. Yesterday evening, in her home turf in Monaco, the princess discovered Raf Simons' new collection for Dior. For his first resort collection fashion show, the house's creative director couldn't have dreamt of a better ambassador.
