THE ART OF THE NUANCE

At Dior, color is an art. After unveiling the new gel texture nail varnish yesterday, discover its twenty-one shades of color today.

"Why deprive fashion and women of the prestige and the charms of color which, for them, has a real appeal?"  Christian Dior pondered in his autobiography. Historically, color has played an intrinsic part in the world of the House. Boasting twenty-one exceptional colors, the new palette of Dior nail varnishes continues this legacy. Rouge-999 is the absolute red, the ultimate shade, and also a homage to the very first lipstick created by the Hhouse in 1949. Trianon, a dark gray infused with beige, subtly references the couturier's attachment to Versailles, and Bonheur, a slightly acidic pink, is a sweet echo of the pink Bonheur de Dior. The ripe purple, shaded with mystery that is Nuit 1947 evokes masked balls, the art of disguising and reinventing oneself in the course of an evening.

With the passing of the seasons, colors have permeated the history of the house. Like the dense gray Métal Montaigne inspired by the mansion at 30 Avenue Montaigne, or the sensual, mysterious and bold blue of Junon, named for the legendary dress in gray tulle embroidered with midnight blue sequins. The pastel white of Muguet is timeless, a nod to the good-luck flower that the superstitious couturier liked to pin in his buttonhole. The saturated pigment-rich colors of Pandore, Mirage, Wonderland and Aventure, a sparkling and radiant coral, are all as enchanting as their dreamy names suggest.
