What Cannes Has In Store For You...
What are the major happenings of the Festival? Who will climb the famous steps? Jean-Pierre Lavoignat reveals all here, exclusively for DiorMag.
Whether it's the enormous bouquets of peonies, roses and hydrangeas, or the photographs of smoldering lips hanging on the wall, it's all about the same element: red. It's the only thing one sees upon entering the Majestic hotel's Dior suite. Red, a favorite color of Christian Dior, takes the starring role this year as Rouge Dior - the house's very first lipstick - celebrates it's sixtieth birthday. For the occasion, the Dior suite – open year-round – welcomes an exhibition conceived as a carte blanche on the subject of lipstick: Violette, house Make-Up Designer, asked three photographers of her choice to write their own visual story of the color red. As seen through the lenses of Danniel Sannwald, Benjamin Lennox and Txema Yeste, it appears by turns electric and futuristic, mysterious and fleeting, and is displayed in large-format prints on the Trianon gray walls of the Dior suite. This year once more, it's here, on the sixth floor of the Majestic hotel that the actresses come to get made up before climbing the fabled steps of the Palais des Festivals. Here, on the medallion-back chairs and cannage motif couches, that the future cinematic talents and the established stars of the silver screen spend their final moments before sparkling in front of the overwhelming barrage of camera flashes.
