Today, DiorMag invites you on a guided tour of the Esprit Dior exhibition in the company of Florence Müller, fashion historian and the exhibition's curator.
Christian Dior has been inspiring the style of the world's most elegant women since 1947. The name Dior, in fact, is all about the magic of elegance and style, being both incredibly modern and timeless, inimitable and always avant-garde. This magic comes from the man who brought it to the world - Christian Dior. A creative genius, he captured and distilled feminine beauty, his dream being "to make women more beautiful and happier, too" . He founded a house with an international reach and invented the idea of global luxury as we know it today. This capacity for creating magic was something that developed in him over the years, as he absorbed the most innovative and exciting cultural and artistic influences of his time. He also cultivated his passion for France and its history, the Grand Siècle (17th and early 18th centuries) in particular, Versailles and Marie-Antoinette, all of which proved of huge importance for the couturier's aesthetic and creative talent.
A great many other influences shaped him from childhood, including nature, gardens, architecture, and all contributed to this spirit he brought which the house of Dior continues to symbolize today. It's this magic that the Esprit Dior exhibition seeks to share and whose origins it attempts to explain, through the cultural, artistic and historical movements and events that marked and inspired Christian Dior throughout his life.
