HISTORY GOING FORWARD

GALLERY

The Bar   and Lady Dior   bags, jewelry and shoes: the show accessories open up new horizons for the house's heritage, between reality and the surreal, in the spirit of Raf Simons' collection.

A black cat, an eye, a four-leaf clover: so many symbols of superstition, all transformed into jewelry. For the fashion show, rings in gold and palladium, sculpted by hand, were worn in multiples on the models fingers, like protective totems. Christian Dior's superstitiousness was well-known – he was never without his amulets and carefully followed the advice of his clairvoyant - and this line of jewelry is inspired by and evokes those superstitions while dressing up hands and ears with pieces fated to bring good luck. Such were the accessories from the second ready-to-wear show by Raf Simons for Dior: inspired by the story of Monsieur Dior, by his tastes and his passions, and always remaining resolutely modern.

It was a similar story with the brand-new Bar bag, decorated with leather flowers inspired by the Miss Dior dress of 1949; also with the shoes – sporting a significantly modernized kitten heel - picking up Christian Dior's beloved houndstooth motif; and the tights-fused-with-footwear embroidered with bells of lily-of-the-valley, the couturier's favorite flower, and a good-luck charm, too. On the catwalk, in a celestial and futuristic setting, the show accessories pulsed with the history of the house of Dior.
