Dior has always enjoyed close ties with fashion illustrators. Christian Dior’s very first collections saw a collaboration between him and René Gruau, who would go on to illustrate the advertising campaigns for Dior fragrances, furs and shoes. This tradition is now being continued by Mats Gustafson. The Swedish artist, born in 1951 and based in New York, worked for American Vogue in the 1980s, and then for Vogue Italia and also Harper’s Bazaar in the 1990s. And from the very first edition of Dior Magazine, this illustrator has offered his interpretation of the Dior woman each and every season. His watercolours and collages depict the motifs and cuts of the creation. Our attention therefore falls on a shape, a print or the movement of a fabric. His striking, refined portrayal of the woman he draws captivates us. Dior by Mats Gustafson also offers exclusive illustrations of designs created by Christian Dior. And what’s more, this distinctive story of an artist and a couture house is brought to us by celebrated fashion journalist Tim Blanks. A chance to discovery the Dior collections from a new angle.
