Diorskin Forever Undercover: Backstage

Return to behind the scenes at the haute couture autumn-winter 2017-2018 show, where Peter Philips, the Creative and Image Director of Dior Makeup, created a natural and untamed beauty using the Diorskin Forever Undercover corrector.

"With a wide range of colors and a matte finish, the corrector can be used to sculpt features, accentuating shadows and hollow areas. For this, I’m choosing a shade one to two tones higher than the foundation. If the skin needs a bigger correction, I apply the corrector before the foundation, and then I add as necessary."  Peter Philips.

François Demachy at Dior

Since 2006, François Demachy has been revisiting the symbolic legacy of Christian Dior and translating it into exceptional perfumes, developed between the creative laboratory in Paris and the Bastide des Fontaines Parfumées, a nerve center for innovative creation located in Grasse, the region of his birth. We take a closer look at the house of Dior’s exclusive perfumer-creator, whose work is on display in the exhibition Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams.

Even though he had grown up in Grasse, the capital of perfumers, it was only by chance that François Demachy went to school to study perfumery. After a three-decade career in the fragrances world, he became the “nose” of Parfums Christian Dior in 2006: a rather significant responsibility in the House as Christian Dior had always viewed perfumes and couture as indissociable, from the first show back on February 12th, 1947, at which he had also presented his first fragrance, Miss Dior.Flowers are Dior, and Dior is flowers,” explains François Demachy. To wit, the exhibition Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams gives a special place to flowers. As in the room in which fashion embraces flowers, notably the couturier’s beloved lily-of-the-valley, or roses, as prints and embroideries on exquisite dresses. But also in a room given over entirely to perfume, from bottles designed like precious jewels to the creations of François Demachy, who has memorably reinvented Miss Dior and J’adore.

Inspired by the different faces of femininity and by the voyages he undertakes to seek out the most beautiful raw materials, François Demachy splits his time between the creative laboratory in Paris and the Bastide des Fontaines Parfumées, an extraordinary site in Grasse, the area in which he grew up, where in a creative atelier he can oversee the entire process from bloom to bottle. Located not far away is the Château de la Colle Noire, today splendidly restored, which Christian Dior had bought in 1951 to source and grow roses and jasmine. Ever the demanding perfectionist, Demachy pursues the same quest for luxury and excellence as Monsieur Dior: ten years ago, to guarantee a constant supply of raw materials of the most exceptional quality, he established a partnership with the Clos de Callian and the Domaine de Manon, situated near the Château de la Colle Noire, which grow centifolia roses and jasmine grandiflorum exclusively for Dior. It marks a fragrant return to the roots.

Metallics

We turn the focus onto the makeup of the Metallics collection designed by Peter Philips, the Creative and Image Director of Dior Makeup, which makes it possible to create a bespoke beauty look using a sophisticated palette of colors with multiple material effects.

For this fall’s beauty, Peter Philips has created the Metalizer Eyes & Lips hybrid makeup, which brings its ultra-pigmented formula with metallic effect to the eyes as well as the lips. Designed to be easily transportable and equally easy to use, it provides a professional result at any time of the day; its ultra-creamy texture dries in the blink of an eye and leaves no feeling of clumpy product behind. On the lips, it can be used alone or over ones usual lipstick to create contrasts. And on the eyelids, it’s applied with the fingertip to leave a chrome effect light veil, or with a brush for a long-lasting luminous finish with vibrant shimmers. The light around the eyes is also enhanced with the 5 Couleurs palette, a Dior makeup essential, which plays with contrasts: its smoky harmonies combine matte, satin, sequined and lamé effects to give color a new dimension. The eyebrows are then thickened and strengthened thanks to the Diorshow Bold Brow's vitamin cocktail, with its three ash shades, which acts instantaneously and as the applications progress.

In order to compliment this beauty look’s shades and metallic effects, Dior Rouge is available in six new sensual colors, from beige to flamboyant red, through a pinkish brown, representatives of an assertive beauty. Matching these shades, in turn, the Dior Contour pencil redraws the lips and lends them an ultimate touch of color. For a complexion that perfectly enhances this makeup, Diorblush Color & Light, with a creamy texture that melts into transparency, subtly redesigns the contours. Its double tip allows for an easy and tailored application throughout the day: the blush side with matte finish enhances the cheekbones, while the mother-of-pearl illuminator is applied to the bridge of the nose and the Cupid’s bow dimple. The metallic effect of this beauty look is expressed down to the nails with the Dior Vernis and its three new colors, the finishing touch to a fully mastered art of color.
