THE ROSE CÉLESTE MEDALLION SAVOIR-FAIRE

The Rose des Vents collection’s story starts a new chapter with the Rose Céleste medallion, designed by Victoire de Castellane. Discover the stages of its creation.

For her new collection, the Creative Director of Dior Joaillerie was inspired by one of the facets of Christian Dior's personality: his superstition, and particularly his passion for the divinatory arts and astrology. From his youth in Granville to his ateliers in Paris, he had so often relied on signs of destiny. Never without his charms, he also listened to the advice provided by his clairvoyant, Madame Delahaye. For each moment of hesitation or uncertainty he suffered, she gave him “the strength to act,” as he wrote in his memoirs.

Following the founding couturier’s favorite lucky star, Victoire de Castellane has now also revisited two symbolic heavenly bodies: the moon and the sun. These precious jewels hold the element of surprise of an exploration of the skies. On the front, a mother-of-pearl moon and three small white gold stars have been embedded with infinite care in an onyx disc in order to reveal all their brilliance. On the reverse, a majestic yellow gold sun, with nine rays of different sizes, stands out from the mother-of-pearl background. Its almond-shaped eye and its smile were defined with a subtle level of refinement. The ornamental stones have been polished to give them a rounded surface, while the gold that encircles them has been shaped to form a rice-grain effect. Available as a medallion, bracelet or necklace, these talismans offer a new invitation to travel through the House’s rich heritage, by day and by night.

The Eclipse

The Rose Céleste medallion, a new design by Victoire de Castellane, plays the starring role in a charming animation by the Creative Director of Dior Joaillerie.

The garden of the Les Rhumbs villa at Granville, Christian Dior's childhood home, was the setting chosen by Victoire de Castellane for a new animation, called L'Eclipse. Designed by the Creative Director of Dior Joaillerie, the two heavenly bodies of the Rose Céleste medallion reveal all their brilliance before the founding couturier’s eyes. In the manner of an eclipse, a majestic yellow gold sun chiseled into mother-of-pearl, embellished with nine different-sized rays, and placed on one side, gives way to an onyx disc, set with a mother-of-pearl moon and three stars in white gold, placed on the other.
