Plays of Light

For the Autumn-Winter Haute 2019-2020 Haute Couture show, Peter Philips, Director of Creation and Image for Dior Makeup, designed a mysterious beauty look.

Like perfectly beautiful caryatids, the models who walked in the Dior Haute Couture show had pure, glowing skin. Backstage, under Peter Philips’ direction, the makeup artists created the look by starting with the mattifying, hydrating Dior Backstage Face & Body Primer, followed by one of the four variations of Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation, in function of each model’s skin tone. As a final touch, they used Flash Luminizer to highlight the look.

Contrasting with the complexion’s transparency, the eyes were smoky, elegant and romantic. Black powder from the new Dior Tri(o)blique palette underscored the eyes and was applied around the contour from lash line to brow line for a crescendo effect.  At once delicate, soft and intense, the look used neither eyeliner nor mascara. Brows were gracefully underscored with Diorshow Drow Styler and Diorshow Pump’N’Brow. Lastly, the lips were subtly colored with Dior Lip Maximizer.

Two fine braids, rolled delicately around an imperial chignon, gave a finishing touch to hairstyles gently veiled in black mesh.

A play of ribbons

3,500 meters of black ribbon: that's what one dress required in Dior's Autumn-Winter 2019-2020 haute couture collection by Maria Grazia Chiuri. The Artistic Director revived age-old embroidery techniques, entirely done by hand in the Vermont workshops. Fringes, pompoms and even the wooden buttons that punctuate this exceptional piece are covered with sumptuous ribbons.

Excellence, behind-the-scenes
