The Color of Life

A vivid symbol of desire, Christian Dior saw red as “the color of life”. Faithful to this passion, Peter Philips, Creative and Image Director of Dior Makeup, explores all the facets of this iconic shade.

Timeless and irresistible, Dior red embodies the House’s unique savoir-faire. This precious heritage is passed down from generation to generation, allowing women to inspire and provoke desire.

Whether used as blush, nail polish or lipstick – like the iconic Rouge Dior 999 – this queen of colors deploys its intense pigments, delivering a powerful, sensual magnetism. A bold expression, red reveals the seductive essence of each woman by adapting to every skin tone and every story. “There is one for each woman,” wrote the founding couturier, like a visionary echo of the passionate texts by historian Michel Pastoureau. “Red remains the strongest color, the most remarkable, the richest in poetic, dreamlike or symbolic horizons…red is an ocean,” he wrote in Red: The History of a Color, published in English by Princeton University Press, 2017.
