THE LADY DIOR AS SEEN BY EXHIBITION IN MOSCOW

The traveling exhibition Lady Dior As Seen By will arrive in Moscow starting October 16th, 20211. After Shanghai, Düsseldorf, Milan, Tokyo and Berlin, this event celebrating the iconic Lady Dior as revisited by contemporary artists will take place in the heart of the Russian capital.

A symbol and a legend, the Lady Dior is a constant source of reinvention. Since first appearing on the arm of Lady Diana, the bag has enjoyed an extraordinary destiny. The quintessence of the Dior spirit, with its graphic lines exalting the cannage motif, the bag is made in the Dior workshops in Italy, thanks to the precise gestures of our petites mains. Its savoir-faire pushes the limits, while each detail, thought out with infinite meticulousness – such as its delicate charms – shapes its singularity. An artisanal treasure conceived, sewn, and stitched, the Lady Dior continues to carve out its timeless story punctuated audacious twists.

Since 2011, Lady Dior As Seen By has given a range of emblematic personalities and promising talents carte blanche to express their vision of the Lady Dior. Together, they form an eclectic panorama reflecting the international creative scene, transcending disciplines and borders, and collectively enriching a body of work with every one of the exhibition’s successive destinations. This exceptional alliance, combining the past, present and future, pays tribute to Christian Dior’s passion for the arts (see inset, below).

This new edition gathers works notably signed by Olympia Scarry, Recycle Group and Peter Lindbergh alongside new reinterpretations by Nevine Mahmoud, Cristina de Middel and Jim Goldberg. For this special occasion, a selection of seven Russian artists – Daniil Antropov, Anastasia Prahova, 01001011 Studio, Alexander Yegorov, 0331C, Dasha Trofimova and Alexey Kiselev – have risen to the challenge of transforming this essential bag, metamorphosing it through the prism of their imagination. From sculptures to photographs, more than ninety enchanting works may be discovered at the Ruarts Foundation2. A virtuoso tribute to freedom and excellence, this event highlights more than ever the inspiring dialogues perpetuated by the House.

Christian Dior and the Arts: An Enduring Passion

Christian Dior was passionate about the arts from an early age, going on to cultivate relationships with a number of key painters, musicians, poets, filmmakers and choreographers. In 1928, he opened a gallery with Jacques Bonjean, followed by a second one in 1931 with Pierre Colle. In these spaces of possibility, they presented Alberto iacometti and Leonor Fini, and exhibited artists including Max Ernst, Pablo Picasso, and Joan Miró, with Monsieur Dior also forging special friendships with Salvador Dalí and Jean Cocteau. As a couturier, he linked fashion to this pluralistic fascination and infused his collections with the magic of music, literature, and architecture. A legacy perpetuated by his successors through artistic collaborations and unique projects such as Lady Dior As Seen By.

1 The event will be held in compliance with current health regulations.
2 Established in 2003, today the Ruarts Foundation is one of the largest private foundations for the promotion of contemporary art in Russia. The collection is based on unofficial art from the postwar period and contemporary Russian art.
