The scenography

From A Room of One's Own to a Chambre de soie. Fully embroidered, this exceptional work* created by Eva Jospin pays tribute both to the Embroidery Room at the Colonna Palace in Rome and to Virginia Woolf's feminist manifesto A Room of One's Own**. An immersive gallery conceived as an invitation to contemplation and imaginary journeys; a moment suspended in time where illusion enhances reality.

Known for her creations in cut-out cardboard, the artist uses silk thread – as well as hemp, linen and cotton – to create an enchanting landscape. For its production – representing 350 square meters of embroidery – the artisans of the Chanakya ateliers and the Chanakya School of Craft in Mumbai have created, via a constant dialogue with the artist, a virtuoso composition featuring 400 different shades.

Eva Jospin's design revisits her own universe in which the grottos consecrated to nymphs, cenotaphs, utopian landscapes and monuments inspired by the Capriccios of the 18th century unfurl. Forests, lianas, rocks and waterfalls create a scene conducive to reverie and meandering, recalling the follies of Baroque gardens. This textile architecture of grandiose proportions, inspired by the beauty of the paintings of Nabis artists like Édouard Vuillard or Pierre Bonnard, exalts the power of collective work dear to Maria Grazia Chiuri.

*This installation will be open to the public from July 6th to 11th, 2021.
