Dior by Starck

SALONE DEL MOBILE

For the Salone del Mobile 2023, the collaboration between Dior and Philippe Starck continues with the original Monsieur Dior chair and the most comprehensive furniture collection ever created for the House. The internationally renowned designer, known for his visionary, poetic objects, continues to reinvent the iconic Medallion chair. A major inspiration, a tribute to the emblematic figure of Monsieur Dior.

It was natural to enlarge the family. The Miss Dior Sweet chair and the Monsieur Dior armchair balance each other perfectly through the essential, existential notions of gravity and lightness, of yin and yang. Miss Dior and Monsieur Dior, Catherine and Christian Dior, the sister and the brother, the chair and the armchair, is the story of a sublime complementary duality,” comments Philippe Starck.

Available in a range of materials and colors (polished or lacquered aluminum, ecru bouclé fabric and pink, black or fluorescent orange toile de Jouy), these exceptional pieces, made in Italy, reflect the virtuosity of the hand and the most demanding innovation. They are accompanied by “little brothers and sisters, such as various tables of different sizes, and stools, all of which are extremely elegant,” in the words of the famous French creator.

Works of art testifying to Philippe Starck’s passion for “revealing the life that is in everything”. A pluralistic conversation, an expression of the House’s inventiveness, perpetuating the Dior dream.

Envisioned as an immersive experience, the scenography is enlivened  by a video and musical installation devised especially for the House by Soundwalk Collective* (Stephan Crasneanscki, Simone Merli).

* Music by Soundwalk Collective. Voices: Fanny Mulay Winter, Youka Snell, Joanna Deborah Bussinger, Larissa Tsevi-Unterdörfer, Douglas Pisterman, Fernando Morales, Noah Slee, Simone Ferrante. Strings: Davis West, Lucas Sanchez, Marie Langlamet, Wolf Hassinger. Conducting and arranging for string quartet: Zacharias Falkenberg. Additional arrangement : Aurélien Rivière.

With Christian Dior, there is this perfect balance, both firm and subtle, between masculinity and femininity, which seems to be the secret of the longevity and importance of his work. That is how I see Monsieur Dior, and that is how I wanted to conceive this collection, which is ultra-technological and entirely graceful.”
